The Witcher 3 Remastered skill points reset: rebuild an old character

The Remastered upgrade resets skill points. Rebuild your returning character through the new prerequisites before relying on an old build guide.

Expected upgrade behavior

A skill-point reset after the Remastered upgrade is intentional. The tree now uses prerequisite skills and three ranks per skill. An old allocation screenshot is not a current build recipe.

Rebuild before the next fight

  1. Keep your old save and make a separate working slot after loading the updated character.
  2. Open the character skill screen and inspect the available points, prerequisites and descriptions.
  3. Choose the main role you actually use—sword attacks, Signs or alchemy—and follow the displayed prerequisites for those abilities.
  4. Review the equipped ability setup shown by the current interface before leaving the menu.
  5. Try a familiar low-risk encounter or area. Compare the effects you use rather than assuming an old damage value survived the update.

Why an old build can behave differently

The update changed skill organization and balance. A guide written for Classic or Next-Gen may name an ability or spending threshold that no longer matches what your menu shows. Use it as a playstyle idea, then read the current effects. Do not spend the entire pool by mechanically following outdated point totals.

This page does not declare a best Remastered build or provide unverified rank values. Its purpose is to get a returning character functional without mistaking the planned reset for a broken save.

If the points or menu look wrong

Record your full build, regular/NG+ save type, starting level and active mods. Compare a separate clean test only if you can preserve the original. An intentional reset does not explain every missing-point report. If a prerequisite cannot be selected or the menu fails to respond, send that exact symptom and a screenshot to support. For an easier return, the Bard’s Ballad accessibility options may be useful.
