The Witcher 3 Aerondight: five virtues and There Can Be Only One

Meet the hermit at Lac Célavy, check the five virtues, and use another qualifying deed if you already missed the early Shaelmaar choice.

The Blood and Wine sword

Aerondight is the reward for There Can Be Only One in Toussaint. Meet the hermit at Lac Célavy and prove compassion, wisdom, honor, valor and generosity. Killing the Shaelmaar does not, by itself, close every later compassion opportunity.

Blood and Wine quest spoilers. This is an attributed route; current damage values and a Remastered best-sword ranking are not established.

Start with the hermit and your journal

Reach Toussaint through Blood and Wine, then visit the lake’s island and speak with the hermit. Read the stones if you want the in-world hints. Check which virtues your journal still asks you to prove before replaying a choice you already made. The expansion’s inclusion is explained in the edition guide.

Choose an available qualifying deed

VirtueOne documented opportunity
CompassionSpare the Shaelmaar in The Beast of Toussaint. If missed, let Marlene stay at Corvo Bianco in The Hunger Game after lifting her curse.
WisdomAnswer the Beast of Toussaint riddle with Greenhouse; lifting the wight’s curse in La Cage au Fou is an alternative.
HonorEnter the tourney as Geralt of Rivia, accept Prince Anséis’s mounted duel and win.
ValorFinish and win The Warble of a Smitten Knight tourney, including its final opponent.
GenerosityTip the boy delivering the letter that starts Turn and Face the Strange.

These are selected opportunities, not an exhaustive list of all virtue flags. Preserve a save before a consequential conversation. After a deed, check the journal rather than assuming any kind-looking dialogue counts.

Claim the sword and check its identity

When all five are satisfied, return to the hermit and complete the combat trial. Confirm the reward in your inventory. A similarly named ordinary sword is not evidence that this quest reward has been collected.

If a virtue remains missing, compare your actual quest outcome with the table and the source’s alternatives. This guide supplies no command that rewrites quest flags. For an existing sword, read its current description before planning charge growth; the older player source describes charged kills increasing damage, but its old numbers are not copied into a new build.
