Do not assume a working Next-Gen 4.x mod setup is compatible with Remastered 5.x. Check each author’s supported version, dependencies and installation instructions. Nexus’s Remastered Compatible tag helps find candidates, but does not prove that every tagged mod works with every other mod or hotfix.
Audit before moving the whole setup
- Keep the old game’s saves, mod list and configuration as a separate recoverable setup.
- For each mod, record its version and the author’s stated supported game version.
- Check dependencies and whether the author requires an updated tool or a new installation procedure.
- Test the current game without third-party mods before enabling a small compatible set.
If an error names a script, preserve the exact message and enabled mod list. The name can help the author diagnose a conflict; it does not by itself prove that one generic merger command will fix every installation.
Manual mods versus the in-game menu
The official cross-platform mod menu is a separate installation route. Removing an in-game subscription is not proof that a manual Nexus or Vortex file has been removed. Conversely, moving a manual mod folder does not necessarily disable an in-game subscription.
Use the documented uninstall route for the system that installed each mod. Avoid deleting entire game directories from a forum suggestion. File verification can restore official files but should not be treated as a guarantee that every extra third-party file is gone.
Add back and record
Enable only the next documented compatible change, then test the same launch and save-loading sequence. If the problem returns, record that change and report it to the relevant author. For a startup crash before the menu, use the separate launch checklist. We have not verified a universal 5.x Script Merger version, legacy console command or complete mod pack.
